31.1.10

it's surprising how wonderfully mossy mucky alive it is here. everything is already growing, budding, quietly anticipating sunshine. january is past, my graduate school work has past, now onward & outward towards the realities of life: job-ness, structure, meditation vs. coffee, self-betterment, activity vs. hibernation & stagnation. much to anticipate: acceptances/rejections, assimilation into the workforce, pushing forth artistically.

lia & i are a fully domestic force. cooking & cleaning is a much more desirable endeavor when there is someone else there to appreciate & reciprocate. in this hibernation of winter, i feel fortunate to be in proximity to my number one.

a night spent consoling lovelorn c., dressed in bathing suits, us: three sardines in the claw-foot, soaking, scalding, sweating out boy-frustrations & drinking beer by waxy bathroom candle-light.

lia suggested a proper celebration of my completion of applications; eating pho & a full-priced movie: broken embraces, the new almodovar, which i did love. & then coming home & drinking cheap chardonnay. being drunk & poring over a pile of kiki smith books, thinking, yes please can this happen every night? art books + drunk at home are perhaps how i will envision this winter looking back nostalgically.

skye was here for a moment & i whisked him from place to place in a frantic effort to show him my portland. my favorite afternoon was spent sipping stumptown & observing a placid winter blanket of rain through the vast windowpanes in the lobby of the ace hotel. & having our pictures made in the best photo-booth ever, which is made mostly of mirror & has "you are beautiful" etched just below eye level.
