the smell of wet wool & leather.

it had begun to rain just as i left the restaurant. i caught my reflection in a wet storefront window as i rode by on my rust-geared bicycle. the second-hand helmet paired with my long coat provided me with a sinister gestapo silhouette. i could see droplets speckling the soft kid leather of my grandma's gloves that i wear, the ones that are lined with fur from a rabbit who's been dead for 50 years.

this week brought about feelings of satasfaction, settling into new seasons, having halfway happy epiphanies about the city i live in--hey, i live in portland. & it's nice here.

sitting in small corners of neighborhoods i dont know so well, candle-lit rooms, hot toddies & meeting new people. embracing small pockets of sunshine with excursions to the park in the late afternoon, distractedly notebook writing, perched in grassy patches of mud. & then back to a stifling grey blanket of sky draped over wet-black limbs of bare winter treescapes.

a number of exemplary movie watching experiences : cocteau's orfee, strangers in paradise, a serious man, & an unmentionable chick-flick or two.

cramped hands from letter writing, stuffing up envelopes full of autumn leaves for people in warm climates. building fires out of old art projects & how many bottles of wine this week?

you may be able to hear my feelings here:

... across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving. but how can they know its time for them to go?

& songs about tea.

Nika - I posted something today about a short story without punctuation marks or capital letters, and then while I was surfing for illustrations I stumbled onto your blog. Amazingly appropriate. Would you allow me to insert one of your images from all-souls into my post, replacing the current painting of Proserpine by Rossetti? If you read the post you'll see why I think it would work so perfectly. Here's the url just in case: http://www.317am.net/2009/12/kaze-holding-conversation.html Best, Kaze

kaze,
which image were you interested in using? it would definitely be fine if you were to credit the work in plain sight. let me know what you decide. i enjoyed your post.

thanks for asking!

Nika - So great that you've said yes. Either "spit out by the sea" or "mother's wedding dress"--either one might work if we're looking for Demertzis's 'death as a beautiful whore' (do you find that flattering?) I will credit you and link back to your blog. Since I'm always looking for images to go with my words or the words of writers I feature, maybe we can work out some further exchanges of some kind. Thanks! ps Send me an email at kaze317am@gmail.com

Nika - Here's a follow-up: I've inserted "spit out by the sea" and written a credit line at the end of the post. If you'd like more words--for instance, were you the photographer as well as the model, would you like to be identified as an artist and/or a photographer, etc.--just let me know. K.
