in two days time, i will be en route to a new city.
i'm moving to portland orgeon, the city of roses, stumptown, pdx.
when i think of portland, these types of images come to mind:

a fellow i admire wished me well in a salutation of "fernworts, clubmoss & lichens" & i do hope the experience lives up to such statements.

we will take five days to get there, stopping in los angeles, santa cruz, san francisco, & ashland. this will be my first time driving up the western coast & a new adventure to be certain.

i am finally almost settled with my packing. the only part left to do is see if everything fits in the car, & eliminate from there. this is the part i really really dont want to do. i've been going out of my way to avoid this task with many procrastinations:

- listening to too much michael jackson on repeat & dancing not packing
- watching mj videos on youtube with my mom, upon her request
- shaving my armpits for the first time in at least a year (haircuts are synonomous with stressful situations)
- riding around on my bike in tucson in the heat of the day with nothing planned to do, dripping sweat & tooling with my newly restored gears
- collecting dead junebugs & palo verde beetles for a photo series i won't make
- eating icecream sandwiches instead of going to bed

i have all sorts of melancholy anecdotes to write about how much i will miss tucson & the desert, but i don't want to force all of this out too quickly. i have to mull over my sadness & bask in just-one-more monsoon.
